MAIN FUNCTION OF THE JOB:
To perform specialized rail welding, defect rectification, grinding, destressing support and weld quality control to maintain rail integrity and safe train operations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Minimum of EGCSE with at least three (3) credits including a Pass in English
- A credit in Mathematics will be an added advantage
- Certified Rail Welder qualification.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
- Minimum of 5 years’ experience in railway welding and track maintenance
- A valid medical/fitness and safety competency
- Must possess a valid driver’s license with minimum two years’ experience

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Perform aluminothermic/exothermic and flash-butt rail welding in line with approved procedures.
- Inspect and maintain rails, welds, and track conditions, promptly report defects or unsafe conditions to the Technical Supervisor, ensuring all work meets required quality and safety standards.
- Comply with ESR safety procedures and occupational health and safety requirements, including proper use of PPE, tools, equipment, and site protection.
- Monitor and control welding materials, tools, equipment and consumables, reporting shortages and ensuring efficient use and proper stock handling procedures.
- Ensure safe loading, transport, offloading and storage of welding materials, tools and equipment.
- Guide and support Assistant Welders and team members on the safe and proper handling of tools, equipment and materials.
- Accurately record welding, repair, inspection, defect and maintenance activities and submit required documentation within stipulated timelines.
- Maintain good working relationships to support effective operational delivery.
